Construction on Coolmore Plantation began 150 years ago in 1858. To celebrate, we’re giving this National Historic Landmark (one of only 38 in NC) a facelift, with a striking new color scheme, that returns the home to its original appearance. More than 300 gallons of paint and primer will be required to paint the main house and six outbuildings. Work continues to move ahead swiftly, thanks to the cooperation of resident curators Joe and Janet Spiers and many generous donors. To date, the campaign to “Recoat Coolmore” has raised over $55,000 of the $100,000 needed, including a generous commitment of $10,000 from the Heritage Bank. But we still need your help to complete this project and truly make Coolmore’s sesquecentennial complete. Please make a gift this fall to help Recoat Coolmore.
Preservation NC plans to celebrate the newly restored exterior with a gala at Coolmore on April 25, 2009. Donors of $1,000 or more for the Recoat Coolmore campaign will receive two tickets to the gala and be listed as sponsors in the gala invitation. Learn More
