Announced on May 26 by Dr. Jeffrey Crow, N.C. State Historic Preservation Officer, the list includes eleven new suggestions and five resubmissions, all nominated by residents of New Hanover, Brunswick, and Pender counties.

"The recent loss of the Atlantic Coast Line Building in Wilmington, the constant pressure on historic affordable housing and former school buildings like Topsail School reminds us that we must remain vigilant and assertive with our advocacy and work to save our heritage. The Foundation's list, combined with the efforts of preservationists, concerned citizens and local government, will result in new success stories for these architectural and cultural treasures," stated executive director George Edwards.

Foundation president Lawrence Craige echoed his sentiments. "Historic preservation has achieved more credibility and acceptance today than at any time since we were founded in 1966. However, we still need to work to educate the public and property owners on the advantages of rehabilitation versus demolition."
