Thanks to everyone who sent in award nominations. The strength of our awards program comes from the work of people who take the time to nominate deserving individuals, organizations, and projects that have made a difference in historic preservation.

Winners will be announced at our 2012 Annual Conference in Asheville on Friday, September 21. Join us!

Each year Preservation NC’s Honor Awards recognize individuals, groups and organizations active in the preservation, restoration, rehabilitation or interpretation of our state's irreplaceable places.

Members and friends of Preservation NC are invited to nominate candidates in any one or more of the award categories. The Honor Awards recognize accomplishments in preservation, leadership, promotion, philanthropy or research.

Award categories

The Ruth Coltrane Cannon Award, presented to an individual or organization that has made contributions of statewide significance to historic preservation in North Carolina.

The Robert E. Stipe Professional Award, presented to working professionals who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to preservation as part of their job responsibilities.

The L. Vincent Lowe Jr. Business Award, presented to a business which assists or promotes historic preservation in North Carolina.

The Minnette C. Duffy Landscape Preservation Award, given for the preservation, restoration or maintenance of landscapes, gardens, streetscapes, or grounds related to historic structures.

The Stedman Incentive Grant, awarded to recognize and assist non-profit organizations in their efforts to preserve the state’s architectural heritage.

The Gertrude S. Carraway Awards of Merit, recognizing individuals or organizations that have demonstrated a genuine commitment to historic preservation through extraordinary leadership, research, philanthropy, promotion, and/or significant participation in preservation.

Nominations

What you need

  • Contact information for nominee
  • Contact information for person submitting nomination
  • Narrative (600 words maximum) as to why the nominee should receive the award
  • At least 8 high-resolution digital images (300 dpi JPEG or TIFF format) related to the nominee (see 2012 Honor Awards Application for more detailed information)
  • Supporting materials such as press clippings or publications
  • If you are applying for a Stedman Incentive Grant, please supply budget information for your project (see 2012 Honor Awards Application for more detailed information)

How to submit

  • To submit your nomination online, please fill out the online nomination form below, then email supporting materials as attachments to Lauren Werner at This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it
  • To submit your nomination by postal mail, use the PDF Nomination Application form and include supporting materials on a CD- or DVD-ROM and mail to Preservation NC before the above deadline. (See  2012 Honor Awards Application for more detailed information on mailing application.)
