"History will come alive next week at a downtown-area block party featuring music, wine-tastings, food and especially tours of some of Mount Airy’s oldest homes.
The event has been planned in conjunction with the annual conference of Preservation North Carolina on Sept. 29-30, which will be attended by people from throughout the state.
And while the conference will be filled with programs on architecture, conservation and other topics, the block party next Thursday night will give both conference participants and local residents a chance to mix fun with history appreciation.
The Preservation Block Party, scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m., will be centered at the Uptown Gallery Group/Dr. Robert Smith House on North Main Street."
