"After hearing complaints two years ago, the state went back to its drawing board on widening Alston Avenue from the Durham Freeway north to Holloway Street in Northeast Central Durham . . . 'The road is desperately in need of improvements,' said Gary Kueber, chief operating officer of Scientific Properties, which redeveloped the Golden Belt factory just west of Alston Avenue. 'Roadway, streetscape and sidewalk improvements. But widening is not an improvement.' "
