Any hope for historic Charlotte theater? |
|
"For years, the Carolina Theatre has been empty and on the decline while renovation efforts have come and gone. Like most historic structures, uptown Charlotte's Carolina Theatre has been through many versions since it was designed by prominent architect Charles Hook in 1927.
The 1,450-seat luxury movie palace, which now sits dormant at the corner of Tryon and Sixth streets, catered to vaudeville shows, silent films and eventually talkies. And in 1932, the theater hosted the Charlotte Symphony's debut.
By the 1950s, stars like Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley were drawing crowds. . . But however it was used, the building was always something special."
