Bad soil holds up lighthouse overhaul

A recently discovered pocket of contaminated soil may delay completion of the Roanoke River Lighthouse restoration project.  The lighthouse, built in 1886, was in commission from 1887 until 1941. It is believed to be the last standing, original screw-pile lighthouse in the United States, according to the Edenton Historical Commission.
