Commencement House Battle Lost

The zoning battle is over for Greensboro's 1958 Commencement House, a unique document of modernism and collaborative design. On Feb. 2, City Council voted 6-1 for an amended zoning plan that would demolish the house. The house was designed and built by a Woman's College design class led by noted modernist Edward Loewenstein.
