Hendersonville board nixes plan to expand district

"A proposal to expand the local historic district was voted down by the Hendersonville Historic Preservation Commission late last month, keeping 102 properties in and around Main Street from being added to the district...

Councilman Steve Caraker suggested there might be other ways to protect some of the historic buildings in Hendersonville.

'You've got a local landmark (designation) tool to help protect single buildings," he said. "You might want to use that tool.'Freeman agreed.

On Dec. 4, 2008, city council agreed to consider the expansion of the Main Street Local Historic Overlay District, following a presentation by Freeman. "
