"...The purpose of the foundation's “most threatened” list is to focus attention on threatened sites and to illustrate the importance and benefits of historic preservation.

“Historic Preservation has achieved more acceptance today than at any time since we were founded in 1966,” foundation President Don Britt said. “We still need to work to educate the public on the advantages of preservation versus demolition, but we are moving forward.”

The ongoing challenge for the foundation is to create a list of endangered sites that best reflects current threats to the community's cultural, architectural and historical heritage"
