When the rapid modernization of America started spreading throughout Western North Carolina and into Henderson County years ago, brothers Vernon and Leander Johnson knew it would take hard work to keep this area true to its roots. Thus, the brothers donated their farm, including an 1880s home, 10 historic buildings, a barn loft museum, animals, nature trails, and 15 acres of forest, fields and streams, to the Henderson County Board of Public Education in 1987 for educational purposes.  The farm's biggest fundraiser of the year -- the Johnson Farm Festival -- will celebrate its 20th anniversary on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
