Raleigh Municipal Building is "one worthy of renewal" |

The elegant art deco-style Hotel Carolina graced the northeast corner of Hargett and Dawson streets in downtown Raleigh until it was demolished in 1970 to make way for the current city hall. And now once again we are contemplating demolition in the heart of our city. In the debate over the Lightner Public Safety Center, not much has been said about saving and reusing the old Municipal Building (recently vacated as Raleigh police headquarters). Before we bring out the wrecking ball, let's stop and think about what we're giving up.
