Penderlea project to document history of farming community |

In 1998, Penderlea was placed on the N.C. National Register “study
list” following a comprehensive architectural survey of Pender County
by the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources, but no steps were taken
toward establishing a Penderlea historic district until a little over a
year ago when the museum contacted the Preservation Office. Now, a survey
of all structures and landscape features on the project that
covers roughly 4,370 acres is expected to be complete by the end of August. Then, preparation of the nomination, will begin.
