Preservationists have come up with a plan for protecting quirky, old-school commercial signs that are often eye-catching examples of local history.  Nonprofit Historic Charlotte Inc. and longtime Southern brew JFG Coffee - whose 1960s-era lighted sign came down last November - are setting up a program called Save Our Signs.  Their goal: get owners of vintage signs to register them as historic landmarks - helping protect them from demolition.
