"The Wright Tavern in Wentworth and High Rock Farm near Reidsville opened for the public Saturday for a tour and history lesson of the grounds.
The Tavern was decorated for the holidays in a replication of the 19th century with natural foliage and fruit throughout the home. Kim Proctor, executive director of the Rockingham County Historical Society Museum and Archives (RCHSMA), was adorned in period dress during the event. She said it was a wonderful way to celebrate the tavern’s history and educate the public on how they would’ve decorated their homes during the early 19th century.
“It’s been a wonderful time having Wayne Seymour and his music along with many members of the community who are in period dress,” she said. “I think we were really able to replicate the 19th century Christmas here at the Tavern by being with friends and family.”
Many members of RCHSMA were there Saturday to help Wright Tavern celebrate Christmas and several were even charged with giving tours of the facility.
After Wright Tavern closed up for the afternoon, everyone was invited for a tour at High Rock Farm near Reidsville in the home of Richard Teague. He is currently on the society’s board of directors and owns one of the few remaining examples of the Federal style of architecture in the area."
