Loray Mill Redevelopment Back on Track in Gastonia

Belmont's Imperial Mill Demolished

Mapping Durham's Hayti

"During the 1940s, Durham's Hayti neighborhood was such a successful model for African-American entrepreneurship and community . . .  Then, Urban Renewal of the 1960s and 70s -- coupled with increasing suburbanism and the construction of the Durham Freeway -- decimated much of Hayti's fabric. Today, advances in web-based technology are helping to retell the human stories of Hayti and digitally recreate the history of the community."

New Tool from State Preservation Office Maps Preservation Online
May 11, 2011

"Since much of Durham's unique sense of place stems from its history, it should come as no surprise that Durhamites are among the most active participants in North Carolina's historic preservation rehabilitation Tax Credit Program . . . Now, owners can use a new Internet tool to determine whether their property is within a National Register Historic District and if renovation work to their home is potentially eligible for state and federal preservation tax credits."

New Preservation Guidelines for Salisbury
May 11, 2011

"By making historic preservation as simple, affordable and easy as possible, advocates said Salisbury can attract people to older neighborhoods and grow the city without annexation. The city has unveiled the draft Historic Preservation Master Plan, including 33 pages of recommendations with the ultimate goal of putting more people in historic homes."
