A Look at Tarboro's First Hundred Years

"November marks the anniversary of both Edgecombe County and the Town of Tarboro. The county was proposed in 1732 by the royal governor George Burrington, but was not approved by members of the assembly, although it was recognized as a precinct.

Finally after nine years and much controversy, the assembly passed a law acknowledging the existence of Edgecombe County and allowing for a county court and for a representative to sit in the colonial assembly . . ."
