"Wilkesboro's downtown historic district is one of 31 individual properties and districts across the state which have been added to the National Register of Historic Places. The announcement was made by the N.C. Department of Cultural Resources.

The properties within the 37-acre historic district were reviewed by the N.C. National Register Advisory Committee, and were subsequently approved by the N.C. State Historic Preservation Officer for state recognition and forwarded to the Keeper of the National Register."
