Winston-Salem Debating over Historic Landmark Status

"The city of Winston-Salem is considering extending a historic-landmark tax break to the Reynolds family for a home that was originally built for Robert M. Hanes, a Salem-born executive who guided Wachovia Bank and Trust through the Great Depression. The decision rests with the Winston-Salem City Council, and so far the council's members are divided. Some think the house should be given the tax break to help preserve an important piece of the city's history. Others say wealthy property owners should not receive reductions in their taxes."
