Historic structure's survivial depends on community

A statue of Jesus silently watches over the grounds of Ai Church at the corner of N.C. 68 and Alcorn Road in Oak Ridge. Dorothy Peeples Andersson, who was a member of the church growing up, placed the figure there in memory of her late husband Arne. Now most agree that it will take more than just a protective spirit to save the historic structure.  The nonprofit Preservation Oak Ridge Foundation and its members are undergoing an ambitious fundraising campaign to help save the church building.
