Preservation North Carolina sells all of its properties subject to Protective Covenants and a Rehabilitation Agreement.
Preservation North Carolina consults with the buyer to set up a
mutually agreeable time schedule for the rehabilitation and to clarify
the scope of the work the building requires. Priority is given to
repairs needed to prevent deterioration of the building. The
rehabilitation agreement also serves as an educational tool to inform
the buyer of sound rehabilitation practices. This legal document, which
is usually not recorded, expires when the rehabilitation has been
completed. The following is an example of the rehabilitation agreement
we require. The Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment
of Historic Properties (1992) is attached to the agreements. The actual
agreements will be tailored to suit the specific property and the plans
of the buyer.
