If so, you need to be a passionate supporter of Preservation North Carolina!
Founded in 1939, Preservation NC is North Carolina's only statewide
nonprofit preservation organization.
Our Endangered Properties Program,
established in 1975, has developed a national reputation for success.
The program works like this: Preservation NC acquires endangered historic properties and then finds purchasers
willing and able to rehabilitate them. We have saved more than 600
endangered historic properties, many of which have truly been community
landmarks. More than 2,000 acres of open space have been placed under protective covenants, perpetually restricting their development.
Preservation NC has been a pioneer in dealing with troubled building types, from
downtown commercial properties to historic schools to abandoned
industrial factories and mill villages.

Why We Need Your Support
Our programs and services are made possible by the annual support of
nearly 5,000 donors.
Endangered Properties Program
Our passion is finding preservation solutions for historic properties that are threatened
with demolition or disuse. PNC's work with endangered historic properties has generated
more than $200,000,000 in private investment, supporting local tax rolls and
creating hundreds of jobs.
Public Outreach
Technical Assistance for communities and historic property owners;
education through publications,
conferences, awards, university seminars; and a comprehensive statewide
preservation website, PreservationNC.org.
Advocacy to promote preservation as a
tool for economic development and job creation. One of PNC's greatest advocacy
successes has been the creation of rehabilitation tax credits in 1997 by the
NC General Assembly. These credits have stimulated more than $1 billion
of investment in historic buildings throughout North Carolina.
NC's Most Special Historic Places
PNC is responsible for the permanent stewardship of some of the state's most
significant historic properties: Coolmore Plantation in Tarboro, the Bellamy
Mansion in Wilmington, and the Banker's House and El Nido in Shelby.
The Bellamy Mansion Museum of
History & Design Arts in Wilmington, and Ayr Mount in Hillsborough are open
for tours year-round and available for special events. PNC members receive free
admission to the Bellamy Mansion Museum of History & Design Arts.
