Built around 1880, the Dr. John W. Parker House is a distinctive example of
Queen Anne architecture in downtown Goldsboro. Its striking exterior
architectural elements—the wraparound porch with turreted roof, turned
posts, and decorative spindlework frieze and rounded shingles—give the house
an air of Victorian elegance.
Desirable interior features include a spindlework
fan over French doors, seven
Victorian mantels (one with
original tile), original five-paneled
doors, wood floors and a beautiful staircase in good condition. In
the backyard stands an early garage comparable in size to a modern two-car
garage, perfect for use as a studio or workshop.
Restoration of the
Dr. Parker House will require updating the current mechanicals,
limited lead abatement, updating the current kitchen and baths or
removal of superfluous kitchen and
baths used by the current tenants. Part of the Goldsboro historic district, this property is eligible for historic preservation tax credits.
Goldsboro, located only 55 miles east of Raleigh, is part of a large downtown revitalization project between Preservation NC, Self-Help, the City of Goldsboro and the Downtown Goldsboro Development Corporation.
