Matthews – “Elizabeth Lawrence: The Sage of Southern Gardening”

On Tuesday, March 28, Andrea Sprott, garden curator of the Elizabeth Lawrence House and Garden which are part of the Wing Haven Foundation, will present a program titled Elizabeth Lawrence: The Sage of Southern Gardening. This program is an engaging and information overview of world-renown garden writer and landscape architect, Elizabeth Lawrence, and the historic Charlotte property where she lived and gardened for 35 years. Andrea will discuss what makes this one-third acre plot so interesting and significant to the world of horticulture today.

Andrea is a self-taught gardener and admitted plantaholic. She volunteered at Wing Haven Nursery for several years. In 2003 she became a Master Gardener and in 2010 was hired by the Wing Haven Foundation as Garden Curator of the Elizabeth Lawrence Gardens. Andrea is honored and privileged to literally and figuratively grow the legacy of Elizabeth Lawrence.
Wing Haven Gardens comprises the Wing Haven Garden & Bird Sanctuary created by the Clarksons at 248 Ridgewood Avenue and The Elizabeth Lawrence House & Garden located at 348 Ridgewood Avenue. The gardens are open Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Meeting to be held at the Matthews Woman’s Club, 208 South Trade Street, Downtown Matthews. Free to Foundation members, there will be a $5 charge for non-members. The program will begin at 7:15 p.m. with a reception starting at 7:00 p.m. For more meeting information, call 704-846-6693
