Please join us for a “Support the Historic Tax Credits” event at 2pm on October 18th at Revolution Mill in Greensboro, NC.
For those of you who haven’t been to Revolution Mill, it is one of the best examples of the tremendous impact historic tax credits can have on revitalizing struggling communities. In the early 2000s, this area of Greensboro had sky high unemployment and poverty rates. Cone Mills had shuttered over 1 million square feet of manufacturing space which had a cascading impact on the local area. Thanks to the efforts of Self Help and the gap financing provided by the state and federal tax credit equity, Revolution Mill is once again the leading economic engine in its community. The Revolution Mill Campus now features 1,260 permanent jobs, affordable housing, market rate housing, creative space specifically reserved for entrepreneurs/innovators, multiple restaurants, a permanent art gallery, a greenway, multiple outdoor performance spaces for festivals……you get the idea, it is incredible.
With the tax reform effort fully underway in Washington, now is the critical time to make congress understand that the federal Historic Tax Credits are an invaluable economic development tool that must be retained as part of the new tax code.
