Built in the early 1900s, the Clark-Miller Grist Mill is on the banks of the lovely and picturesque Little Horse Creek. The building is just minutes from the New River, Blue Ridge Parkway, and hiking and camping in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is also near the restaurants and galleries of the thriving small town of West Jefferson.
The main and second floors of the mill have ceilings of 10-14 feet. Some of the early milling equipment is still present.
Some stabilization work has been completed by the current owner. The foundation and front wall have been repaired. The clapboard siding has been removed to allow installation of plywood and Tyvek to make the building more airtight. A temporary power pole has also been installed. Septic system approved by the Appalachian District Health Department for a two bedroom residential unit.
The building still requires roof repair, and installation of electrical, plumbing, septic, well, and HVAC systems. The clapboard siding also needs to be reinstalled.
The Clark-Miller Grist Mill is currently listed on the National Register Study List. If placed on the National Register, it will be eligible for preservation tax credits.
