Preservation Greensboro – Curated Tour of Cape Town S.A.
Preservation Greensboro and the Weatherspoon Art Museum are pleased to partner with their travel curator Studio Traveler to offer a study tour of Cape Town, South Africa.
As the oldest city in South Africa, Cape Town boasts a number of historical buildings, many of which are still in use today and open to visitors. The city’s architecture is a testament to the many varying influences in South Africa’s unique history.Preservationist Benjamin Briggs will be on hand to guide us through Cape Town’s architectural history, including Eurpoean influences from early Dutch Calvinists, French Huguenots, and British traders imposed on an existing Khoisan pastoralist system.
Museum director and contemporary art expert Nancy Doll will provide vital insight into the vibrant contemporary arts scene in the “Mother City”, recognized as World Design Capital in 2014. Wide-ranging, expert knowledge combined with a wealth of professional contacts ensure that this will be a singularly memorable trip to a city with rich history, an incredible geographic locale, and a creative future.
