MUST BE MOVED! Impressive c.1883 home featuring a two-story porch with Chippendale railings. The interior boasts several Eastlake-style mantels.  Home to generations of the Greenway family, including Lee Greenway–makeup artist for films and tv shows starting in the 1930s.  The structure must be relocated to a new site.

Architectural and Historical Information

The Greenway House is a two-story L-plan frame house with a one-story rear addition typical of late nineteenth century structures in Rutherfordton.

The house must be relocated to a suitable nearby site ideally within Rutherforton, but must remain within Rutherford County, to prevent its demolition.  Once on its new foundation with water and sewer/septic in place at the new site, a complete rehabilitation of the structure will be required including all new systems—electrical, plumbing, HVAC—significant interior repairs, exterior repairs and painting, plus installation of new kitchen and baths.  The buyer will also need to assess the condition of the roof.

Area Information

Rutherfordton was established in 1787 and is one of the oldest towns in western North Carolina. It was even voted North Carolina’s Small Town of the Year by N.C. Rural Center.  The area features charming shops, history, hiking, shopping, and dining.  They have a historic walking tour of Main Street that includes the Bechtler House, home of Christopher Bechtler who minted America’s first one-dollar gold coin, and the headquarters of N.C. Gold Trail, with a large cluster of antebellum homes. For more information, visit www.visitncsmalltowns.com/towns/rutherfordton and www.rutherfordcountync.gov.
