Volunteers are needed for a SAFE Day at the Z. W. Evans House in Edenton:
Saturday, June 13, 2026
10am – 2pm
2428 Virginia Road, Edenton NC 27932
SAFE volunteers will help clean out remaining items from the house, taking anything you wish to help keep useful materials from the landfill. Any remaining items and trash will be hauled off at the end of the day. Volunteers will help sweep out and tidy the interior and exterior in preparation for upcoming showings to prospective buyers. Volunteers are also needed to help with raking and clearing the yard debris left behind from the recent bush hogging work.
Know before you go:
* Carpooling is recommended as the site can only accommodate about 15-20 cars.
* Wear comfortable work clothes and closed toe shoes.
* Bring water to stay hydrated in the summer heat.
* Recommended items to bring with you are noted here.
If you plan to participate, please email us to complete a Volunteer Waiver.

SAFE (Saving Architecture For Everyone) Days are an important part of PNC’s Endangered Properties Program where volunteers assist PNC with cleanup to bring a property to market.
The Z. W. Evans House, built in 1883-84, is located north of Edenton and was first sold through PNC’s Endangered Properties Program in 2000. The appearance of the house dates from a 1917 expansion designed by architect Walter S. Pardee of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The architect, who had married into the Evans family, displayed his admiration of Frank Lloyd Wright in the deep exterior eaves and austere trim.
Though it was occupied and well-maintained into the 2010s, it fell into disrepair after its elderly owner could no longer maintain its care. Materials have been removed inside the house and overgrown vegetation removed around the yard to prepare it for marketing to potential buyers. The property will be sold subject to PNC covenants and a Rehabilitation Agreement with the buyer.
Help us complete preparation work as we start the search for a new buyer for the home’s next preservation chapter.
